Getting the Right Ski Boot

December 10th, 2008

I know that this has absolutely nothing to do with real estate, but I wanted to pass on some information.

One of my family’s favorite hobbies is skiing- and I don’t mean water skiing!  We all like to downhill ski, even though we live on the subtropical coast of South Carolina.  Both of our daughters were on skis by age three, so now at the ripe ages of 10 and 15, they can pretty much ski on any terrain! But this means that we have to travel to find good snow.  Our favorite spot is out in  Utah, where they get an average annual snowfall of 500 inches!

Well, this year, my husband and I decided to get new ski boots.  We wanted to get custom fit, with heat molding/foot beds etc.  My husband stumbled upon Southern Ski on the internet.  This is a ski shop located in Columbia with a pedorthotist owner that gives a thorough evaluation to make sure you get the proper fit.  Since I have had foot surgery, I thought this was a great idea. All things are taken into consideration such as foot problems, previous injuries, calf size, leg length, etc. You have to allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours for the entire evaluation. Mike (the owner) said that he has people from all over that come to his shop for custom fitting, even as far away as Oklahoma!  I can’t wait to see how great it will feel to test these new boots in the Utah snow!  I hoping it will take our skiing to the next level….maybe we’ll be able to keep up with our daughters!

I highly recommend Southern Ski! You can visit their website at http://www.southernski.com/
